Once each child arrived, they prepared for the festivities by building their own card- board and balloon powered race car to speed across the floor The mems. quickly became part of the pit crew until they mastered the position of the axles, wheels and the balloon engine used to propel the cardboard-wheeled car across the floor by forcing air out through a plastic straw. To fuel pit crew members, all types of Reed's and Mater's favorite foods were served like Sarge's Surplus Sandwiches, Mater's. Tater's potato chips, alphabet soup, Fillmore's Organic Fuel juice', ~and at Guido' s Pit Stop treats included Light- ning McQueen's stoplight brownies, Mater's licorice Tow Cables, Luigi's Tower of chocolate covered mini do- nut Tires, frosted cutout sugar cookies and the finale was a four layer race track carved into the side of a mountain ofchocolate cake. McQueen and Mater sat atop the chocolate frosting which was adorned with green cacti (some shaped like the number 5), yellow road signs indicating "5" mph and the Cars logo modified to say "Reed" for the birthday boy. Guests present for the celebration included Reed's fam- ily, Troy, Christy, Peter and Faith, and: friends, Jenny, Owen and Alyssa Russell, Doug, Erin, Andrew and Connor Garman, all of Courtland, Marlene, Hannah, Gideon, Noah and Hezekiah Nelson of Kensington, Pas- tor Robert and Kirstin Hopkins of Su- perior, and grandparents Ray and JoAnn Newman of Concordia.
