Burr Oak Trees The oak wilt problem was listed in a previous news column. The question then comes up / John Morrell 'Water Added' /_ Whole Ham : Florida Grown Sweet "What tree species do I plant in place of burr oak? My recom- mendation is to continue to use burr oak trees as replacements. At this time the disease is a ma- ture tree problem Mature ash trees have a fungus disease that gradually kills the tree. I still recommend planting ash trees. One more item about tree problems, oak trees are very susceptable to 2,4-D and Banvel. The fumes that are carried by the wind from a nearby field affect the oak trees, which weakens the tree's resistance. I believe that landowners and land operators need to be more careful in what herbicides are used on or near trees and when these herbicides are used Child CareProvider Workshop A child care provider work- shop will be Saturday, Feb. 8 in the Grace Lutheran Church, Hebron, beginning at 8:30 a.m Tom Tonnages will open the workshop with a presentation on television and families. For registration and questions, contact the Nuckolls County Cooperative Extension Office. ( 4-H News.....
