Thur~lay. May 5. 1983 ,, Students from the North Ward classes of Mrs. Sue Rose and Mrs. Carol Warneking ,,- planted three evergreen bushes as part of the Arbor Day celebration in the planter on the ~ northeast corner of the school on Monday. The planting had been scheduled for Friday, % but bad weather interfered. -Express Photo > "We used it as an activity to help them use skills they've used in class," commented Sue Rose Third grade teacher about an Arbor Day project in which two third grade classes sold goods they made and paid for. They bought and planted shrubs at North Ward. The classes first went to a Superior bank to borrowS45 for ingredients. Another day the group pur- chased the ingredients at the grocery stores. They also toured the bakery and meat market. The two groups visited the newspaper office to learn about advertising. The third graders advertised over the intercom in their school, made posters and handed out flyers to the students in their school. The students, along with teachers, Mrs. Rose and Carol Warneking and a few mothers of the classes, made five bat- ches of rice crispy bars, brownies, ice cream cones and 200 bags of popcorn.
