6B THE SUPERIOR EXPRESS Thursday, May 21, 2015. Rock Hills host NPL track meet at Mankato The Rock Hills High School track, in Mankato, was the site of the North- ern Plains League meet, Thursday. The Grizzly boys finished in sixth place in the 14 team field with 35 points. The girls team finished in fifth place in the 13 team field with 37 points. Schools competing in the boys division were Osborne, Pike Valley, Natoma, St. John's, Southern Cloud, Lakeside, Wilson, Tescott, Chase, Sylvan-Lucas Unified, Tipton Catholic, Lincoln and Thunder Ridge. The girls went up against the same schools with the ex- ception of Chase. Joel Broeckelman was the winner of the I00 yard dash with his time of 23.46 seconds. He added second place points with his finish in the 100 yard dash. Dylan Hill brought the team third place points in the 800 meter run. Justyn Peer finished fifth in the 200 meter dash. Arrow Durant secured a fifth place finish in the javelin throw. He took part in the shot put and shot put. Luke Broeckelman took sixth place in the high jump and was an entrant in the javelin throw. Grant Davis and Austin Durant competed in the discus throw. Austin also competed in the javelin throw and shot put. Davis participated in the shot put. Jake Spiegel entered the long and triple jumps. Rhys Marihugh competed in the long jump, 800 and 1600 meter runs. Wyatt Duskie took part in the 300 meter hurdles. The bo;s 4 x 100 meter relay team of L. Broeckelman, J. Broeckelman, Duskie and Hill were the third place team. Caitlyn May was the winner of the I 1600 meter run with the time of5:-50.10. Sarena Meier took the top spot in the 3200 meter run with her time of 12"35.38. Hunter Penhell earned sec ond place in the pole vault, clearing I 8'6". Harlee Chance took sixth place I in the 100 meter hurdles and ran the [ 400 meter dash. The 4 x 100 meter relay team of Terri Slick, May, Pennell and Lainee Eakins finished in Second place. Shyanne Fernandez competed in the shot put and discus throw. Emily Cox tossed the shot put and took part in the 800 meter run.. Emma Reinart competed in the discus throw. Abby Muirhead ran the 1600meter run. All the hard work will put tothe test Friday when the team travels to Valley Heights High School at BlueRapids for the regional track and field meet. This event determines which athletes advance to the state championship meet at Wichita. Pfannenstiel's times was 23.51 Dylan Hill, a senior at Rock Hills High School, placed third in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:12.40 at the NPL track meet, Thursday. They assured them- selves of the opportunity to defend their sand green championship at LaCrosse. Rock Hills came out on top at Riley county with a score of 353. Other com- peting schools were Lakeside, Riley County, Yates Center and Southem Cloud. They picked up a third place finish at Tipton with a team score of 348. Tipton won the event with Griz- zly arch-rival St. John's finishing sec- ond. Lakeside, Pike Valley and Natoma were the other schools in the competi- tion. The Grizzlies qualified for the state championship with a second place fin- ish on their home track at the Mankato Country Club. They posted a team score of 340. St. John's finished first and Bird City Cheylin qualified with their third place finish. The other re- gional match was played at Tipton, Monday. Teams advancing to the state match from this event are Tipton, LaCrosse and Lakeside. Collin Herold was the gold medaslit and is the lone golfer for Sylvan-Lucas. Flinn was again the top medalist at the Tipton Invitational with his round of 65. Higer followed in second place, with his round of 70. Mauerhan re-i corded the best round of his season' with his 86. Beam carded a 91. Daniel posted a 94 for the 18 hole event. Jalee Ortman carded a nine hole round of 51 for a third place finish in the junior varsity match against girls and boys. Lexi Jeffrey took 12th with her round of 66. The sun was shining and coolish temperatures prevailed at the Mankato Country Club as five teams and indi- viduals from two schools vied for a place in the state championship match. Riley County and Pike Valley did not advance. The top three schools and the top three individual golfers not on a qualifying team advance. One Miltonvale and two Riley County golf- ers advance as individuals. Flinn was again the low scorer, earn- ing yet another first place medal with his round of 61. Higer struggled a bit and was the sixth place finisher with his round of 82. Beam shot a round of 96. Daniels posted a 101. Mauerhan finished his round with a score of 106. This race appears to be close but in the last lap Sarena Meier. Rock Hills High School, put quite a bit of distance between herself and the runner from Tescott.
