Claude Slate, who lives west of Jewell, lost a garage and all its contents in a fire. The garage was only built recently and in it were stored hundreds of items used on the farm. Corporal Wayne McGinnis, Montrose, is on leave from the Marine Corps after I l months in Korea. Ethel Kuiken, 68, died. She was born in the Ionia vicinity and had lived in Glen Elder since 1942.
