L-N beat Clay Center 52-26 L-N, Raiders beat Clay Center easily in season opener The Lawrence-Nelson Raider var- sity basketball team started the new season with an easy 71-36 win over Clay Center last Thursday Andy Peterson lead the Raiders in scoring with 18 points, followed by Garret Svoboda 14, Addison McCartney nine, Cody Bolte seven, Derek Harrington five, Michael Schroer five, David Kimminau four, Jason Pohlmeier four, Jared Reiman three and Jacob Himmelberg two. Clay Center was lead by Dakota Hoyt with 10 and Jur Van Bussel with seven. The Raiders won the rebound con- test 41-28 and turned the ball over only eight times, compared to 28 for 'Clay Center. The Raiders also had 15 steals. including four by Cody Bolte. In addition to his 14 points Garret Svoboda led his team with 13 rebounds and picked up three steals and four assists. As a team, t, he Raiders were 28 of 76 from the floor for a shooting per- centage of 37 percent. From beyond the arc, they were nine of 29 for 31 percent. They hit six of 14 from the charity stripe for 43 percent. Next action for the 1-0 Raiders is tomorrow (Friday) at Franklin. On Saturday they host the Red Cloud Warriors. Lady Raiders thump Clay Center in first game of the season The Lawrence-Nelson varsity girls basketball team opened the season last Thursday with a 52-26 thumping of Clay Center. By half-time, the Lady Raiders were in total control of the game and leading 25-4. Kelsey Biltoft lead her team in scor- ing with a game-high 15 points, fol- lowed by Brittany Miller nine. Kristin Drudik seven, Marissa Kovanda six. Chelsie Stemper five, Kenzee Kucera three. Lisa Pohlmeier three. Natasha Wehrman two andChrista Ostdiek two. Abby Sorensen paced Clay Center with 10 points.
